Bialystok and Podlasie Region



The
Podlasie Region, due to its unique natural ecosystems 4 national parks, 3 landscape parks and nearly 90 natural reserves has been called the Green Lungs of Poland. For centuries the Podlasie Region has also been a melting pot of various ethnic groups and religions. There are PolesBelarussiansLithuaniansUkrainians and the most numerous Tartar community in Poland living side by side and creating unique culture integrating diverseethnic and religious communities.

The greatest attraction of Bialystok is the 18th century Branicki Palace wlth lts baroque gardens and other precious monuments. Other Bialystoks attractions include the theatres: Wierszalin, Bialystok Puppet Theatre, the Dramatic Theatre of A. Węgierko; as well as the Opera and the Philharmonic Orchestra of PodlasieArsenal Art Gallery and a number of museums.

Lying on the crossroads of the European transport network, the city of Bialystok has become an important trade and entrepreneurship centre in the region. Some major branches of economy include: trade, services, building and industries such as food processingelectrotechnical, electromechanicaltimber and textile. Various forms from Canada, GermanyFranceNorway and Great Britain have been successfully investing ithe city.

Nowadays,at the very beginning of the 21th century the provincial capital is inhabited by nearly 300 thousand people. There are over 50 thousand students currently studying at both public and non-public higher education institutions located in the area: Bialystok Universlty of TechnologyUniverslty of Bialystok, Medical University of Blalystok, Warsaw Branches of Theatre Academy and Academy of Music.

Bialystok University of Technology


Blalystok Universlty of Technology (BUT) is the largest technical universlty in the north­-eastern region of Poland. We are a modern, dynamically developing institution with 65-year-old experience in educating scientists and technologists. At present there are nearly 14 thousand students studying at Bialystok University of Technology in its 7 faculties: Architecture; Civil Engineering and Environmental Protection; Electrical Engineering; Computer Science; Mechanlcal Engineering; Management and Faculty of Forestry in Hajnówka.

The education process involves three cycles or degrees in full-time and part-time modes according to the Bologna Declaration directive. To meet the expectations of both students and modern market economy BUT offers over 20 study courses. Additionally, the graduates as well as other people wishing to continue their education will find a rich variety of postgraduate courses.

Bialystok University of Technology has full rights to confer doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees in seven scientific disciplines, i.e. civilengineering, computer science, electronics, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, machine design and maintenance, mechanics. Furthermore, BUT has been granted permission to confer D.Sc. degrees In four scientific disciplines, such as civil engineering, electrical engineering, machine design and ma­intenance, mechanics.

Both students and university staff have access to well-developed laboratory facilities. Fully computerlzed BUT Library is one of the largest science and technology library in the north-eastern region of Poland. The campus is beautifully situated near the city park and withineasy reach of the city centre. There are sporting facilities such as a modern sports hall, gyms, tennis courts as well as student clubs. Professionally equipped and being able to house over 600 people, BUT’s Auditorium Maximum is a perfect conference centre. Student Residence Halls provide reasonably priced and good standard accommodation for over 2 OOO students.

Why study at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering?


Technical university graduates are currently the most sought-after in the job market. Our students find employment not only in the electromechanical industry, but also in other fields, for instance computer science, electronics, energetics, agriculture and food, polygraphy as well as constructlon, transportation and medical techniques. They are sought-after specialists employed in as constructors, technologists, computer specialist as well as executive staff in all branches of industry.

In order to educate its students so comprehensively, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering must be interdisclplinary in character.

The programmes of study combine different exact sciences and technical sciences, both those connected with mathematics, design of machines, automation and robotics, materials engineering as well as computer science. Students have a unique chance to learn about the latest technologies and acquire knowledge from the specialized scientific and academic staff. They have well-equipped laboratories and computer facilities at their disposal. Moreover thanks to numerous international contacts, students have an opportunity to undertake part of their study, and also work in the future, outside Poland.

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest faculties at the Białystok University of Technology, dating as far back as 1949. Currently there is a three-cycle study system at the Faculty (wlth engineering, master’s and doctoral studies), incompliance with the European standards. According to the results of comprehensive assessment of didactic, research and development activity of scientific institutions published by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education on 30, September 2013, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering received the highest scientific category A (6th position among 36 classified instltutlons).

The pride of the Faculty are its graduates, the total number of which is around 10,000. They work in renowned concerns, leaders of world industry, such as Philips, Samsung, General Electric, ABB,Siemens, Volkswagen, Bosh, Voortman, Ford, Otto Bock, Aesculap and virtually in all kinds of enterprises in the Podlaskie Voivodeship.
